(c)1990 ABC-Disney I decided to test the ABC Sports waters and see what happened. First, we get a brief tease of ABC’s college gridiron double-header. First, Michigan (in the first year after Bo Schembechler {?}) takes on UCLA (led by redshirt freshman Tommy Maddox), followed by Notre Dame (#1; how long ago that must seem) vs. Michigan State. Then, the game intro. As Keith Jackson was still the VOICE of college football on the Alphabet channel, the second string job went to…Brent Musberger, in what I believe was one of his first assignments after some higher-ups at CBS went on a power trip and threw him out just before he was to take the #1 play-by-play role for CBS’ newly-acquired baseball coverage. Joining Brent was Dick Vermeil (midway through his 14-year coaching sabbatical), who had previously worked at CBS as an analyst and occasionally “NFL Today” panelist.
Even with a fucked up BCS college football is best damn sport…outside of booze, and women only things in life better…
@a1cjlock A good example of why corporate mergers cause more problems than they solve. I miss watching the fights on Saturdays I grew up on that kind of stuff. Sad thing is now people don’t know what a great tradition ABC Sports had because all you see is ESPN this, ESPN that. Not that ESPN is bad but ABC should still be it’s own separate sports division.

I’m trying to find the marvelous highlight music for college football that one of the networks used in 80’s and 90’s. It’s not used now, but was great — sort of haunting melody. Anyone know what it was?

I remember watching this game as a kid, I always thought Brent Musberger became humbled after he got fired from CBS , I thought he and Vermeil were a great college football announcing crew.

Yeah but Walt Disney has ruined ESPN it used to be great at covering sports and then by merging ESPN and ABC it ruined it even more
